Call for Papers: Music and Ritual
Call for Papers: Music and Ritual in the Religious Contexts
MDPI, the Swiss-based open-access academic publisher, has invited hymnologists to contribute to a special issue on “Music and Ritual in Religious Contexts”, in their journal Religions.

One of the editors of this issue is Dr Martin Hoondert, a board member of IAH
(the European Hymn Society).
The deadline is September 1st, 2026, and details of this special issue can be found here:
https://www.mdpi.com/journal/religions/special_issues/TD6W2F1HOX
Martin writes “If you are interested, please submit an abstract. After reviewing the abstracts – paying particular attention to whether the contribution fits the thematic focus of the Special Issue – we will determine a submission deadline in consultation with you.
All contributions will undergo peer review; the advantage of Religions is that this process is relatively quick.
In addition, we understand from the editorial board of Religions that peer reviewed articles are published fully open access and that an article processing charge of 1,800 Swiss francs applies per article. In some cases, these costs are covered by the author’s institution, but we are happy to announce that we have some free waivers available.
If you have any questions regarding the procedures, the fee, or the content of the Special Issue, please do not hesitate to let us know. And feel free to share the information about this Special Issue with your colleagues.”
