Hymn Research Today

European conference Strasbourg, Monday 31st August  to Friday, 4 September 2026

Our sister Hymn Society in Europe, the International Society for Hymnological Studies, holds its 33rd International conference in Strasbourg in September, with the focus on “Hymn Research Today: Written sources—digital possibilities—new perspectives.”

There will be presentations in English and in German (with translation) on many aspects of hymn research and hymn publishing in the new digital landscape. Daily devotions, an organ recital, a hymn Festival, and other cultural and social activities in this fascinating city at the crossroads of Europe will make for an interesting and stimulating week. Strasbourg has played a huge part in the development not only of European but also English hymnody, through the English metrical psalm tradition. A great chance to meet like-minded enthusiasts from many countries and backgrounds. Many of the presentations will be in English, meeting the needs of the many participants from Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and other countries outside of the German-speaking regions of Europe. Translation will be provided for presentations in German.
